Cameron makes commitment to export
David Cameron has used the final day of his trip to America to outline the government's strategy for increasing UK exports.
Cameron pledged to 'transform British Foreign Policy' and highlighted the significant role that success abroad can play in help the country out of the current recession.
Foreign Investment boosts North East
New findings released by UK Trade and Investment highlight the impact of overseas investment on the region, even as recession bites across the world.
Figures show that overseas investment helped safeguard or create some 6,673 jobs during the last financial year, representing an investment of more than £700 million.
North East is flying the flag for the UK in markets across the globe
Last night saw the culmination of the 2010 North East Exporters Awards; celebrating the achievements of North East businesses that are looking beyond the region, and indeed the country, in order to become more successful.
Over 250 guests arrived at the Newcastle Gateshead Hilton to be
part of the 15th awards, are sponsored by UK Trade & Investment
(UKTI), One North East, North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), the
Regional Language Network and HSBC.

Routes into Languages - July Bulletin
This month's featured language is the often overlooked Welsh, and those lovely people at Routes into Languages have developed a great quiz to test your undertanding of the language.
There is also a full calender of summer activities taking place across the region over the next few months, so be sure to check them out.
Country codes transform web addresses
The first non-latin character website addresses were enabled earlier this month, creating country codes for the likes of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Net regulator Icann described the move as the most significant since the launch of the internet, with applications now in for the release of the a further 11 International Domain Names (IDNs)
Business Think 2010
Business Thinking is an initiative created by HSBC Business to acknowledge and support outstanding business thinking in the UK.
Each of the nine UK regions will provide six finalists to be considered, with the final 54 businesses invited to pitch their business thinking philosophy. Two winners from each region will receive up to £5 million in lending and a financial reward of up to £100,000 each.

Linked In Italia says bonjourno!
Social Networking site Linked In have launched a new version of the business network in the Italian language in a further attempt to boost the site's international appeal.
Italy now has more than one million Linked In users and follows hot on the heels of Portugal as the networks newest site in translation. Version s are also available in English, French, Spanish and German.
NVQ Language and Translation courses from ITL
Longstanding language and translation specialists ITL are offering a variety of NVQ qualifications in support of the increasing demand for languages in the workplace.
Courses include level 2 and 3 Customer Service and level 2 and 3 Languages. ITL can also provde NVQ training leading to a Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI).
Foreign language as a business tool
An article in this morning's Financial Express (18th Jan) focuses on the many driving forces behind the learning of foreign languages.
As well as highlighting the role that language plays in the understanding of culture, the article also emphasises the importance of language knowledge as a business tool, particularly for accessing rapidly developing markets like India.
Calling all budding translators
The National Centre for Languages (CILT) has created a nice little guide for all those looking to get involved in translation and freelance work.
The guide provides tips on how to present ones self to work providers
and translation companies in order to secure successful working
relationships.
Regional Language Network podcasts now available
A fantastic series of podcasts are now available to those registered with the rlnpodcast website.
The podcasts can be downloaded and listened to via an iPod or other mp3 player, or direct through your PC.
Results reveal the value of languages to employers
The results of a recently published survey indicate the extent to which foreign language skills are important to prospective employers, and also point towards the continuing development of an increasingly globalised workplace.
The CBI Education and Skills survey 2009 indicates that a conversational
level of understanding is as desirable as complete fluency, and
that European languages are still the most important for UK-based
organisations.
